Why Should You Call a Process Server?

business womanIf you are planning to take someone to court for any type of legal action, the person that you are filing against must be notified. While you can provide the person with the legal documents yourself, most of the time it is recommended that you call a process server.

What a Process Server Does

Legal process servers will serve legal documents to an individual or defendant who is involved with a court case. A process server must serve the legal documents in accordance with the laws for the area of service. In some areas the documents must be handed to the defendant personally in other areas the papers can be handed to a person that is in the same business or household. Once the documents have been served the process agent has to provide proof that they have served them. This is completed using an affidavit of service. It can also be called a proof of service. This document of service has to be notarized and then given to the person who requested the documents be served.

Why You Would Need a Process Server

Hiring a process server is a very important step for proceeding with any type of legal court case. There are some states that will require the person that performs the service to have a license. If you live in one of these states you will need to hire a process server who is licensed to serve any type of legal document to the other party.

Even if you live in a state that does not require a process server to be licensed, it is still a good idea to choose a person that has experience serving legal documents in a timely manner. This will ensure that your case gets started as soon as possible.
